How to Answer Strengths and Weaknesses

Sample answers and strategies for the classic strengths and weaknesses interview question.

How to Answer Strengths and Weaknesses

For strengths, pick 1–2 that are relevant to the job and back them with a short example. For example: 'I'm strong at problem-solving; in my last project I reduced bug reports by 30% by introducing code reviews.'

For weaknesses, choose something real but not critical. Show self-awareness and what you're doing to improve. Example: 'I used to overcommit to deadlines; now I use a simple checklist and buffer time, which has improved delivery.'

Avoid clichés like 'I'm a perfectionist' unless you can make it concrete. Avoid mentioning a weakness that is essential for the role (e.g., attention to detail for a QA role).
