Using Keywords in Your Resume

How to find and use the right keywords to get shortlisted.

Using Keywords in Your Resume

Keywords come from the job description: role title, required skills, tools, and experience. Copy the exact phrases where they fit naturally (e.g., 'Python', 'React', 'agile', 'cross-functional teams'). Also use common variations and full forms (e.g., 'Machine Learning' and 'ML').

Place keywords in your summary, skills section, and bullet points. Don't stuff—weave them into real achievements. Example: 'Built REST APIs using Node.js and reduced response time by 30%.' That uses both a skill and an outcome.

Different roles need different keywords. Tailor your resume for each application. If you're applying to multiple types of roles (e.g., frontend and full-stack), keep two versions and tweak as needed. ATS and recruiters both look for relevance; keywords help you show it.
