Resume Formats: Chronological, Functional, and Hybrid
Which resume format to use and when.
Resume Formats: Chronological, Functional, and Hybrid
Chronological: experience in reverse date order. Most common and preferred by recruiters. Use when you have a clear, relevant work history. Functional: skills and achievements first, experience brief. Use when changing careers or having gaps. Hybrid: combination—key skills and then chronological roles. Good for experienced candidates with diverse skills.
In India, chronological or hybrid are most accepted. ATS and recruiters are used to them. Functional resumes can raise questions ('Why is experience de-emphasized?') so use only if necessary. Whatever the format, keep it clear and scannable.
Our resume builder uses a clear chronological-style layout that works for most roles. You can reorder sections (e.g., put Projects right after Summary for freshers) to highlight what matters most for the job.
